[locked from everyone until she has clothes on again, whenever that is]

The curse of being a racer was not knowing exactly when time off *was*. 'Time off' depended on what her car needed, what her girls needed, who was starting shit this week and needed to be taught who was in charge, and there'd been months at a time when she worked from the minute she woke up to the minute she fell back in bed. Maintenance of a car like hers was a bitch, and she didn't even want to think about the politics of racing like she did, shoving the fact that she was a skirt and a damn good racer in the face of every idiot boy that thought he knew how to drive and needed proving wrong. Looking after Tej was a job and a half, even if he'd say looking after her was two jobs, and she smirked to herself with the thought.

The nine-to-fivers had it easy. Regimented and pruned like bonsai, growing so tiny and controlled, knowing exactly how much of their lives was work and how much was play. Racer life didn't quite work that way. Work *was* play, and sometimes play was work.

Of course, Suki thought, stretching naked in sun-warm sheets and idly turning a page, that was the blessing, too. She woke up and decided she just didn't feel like getting out of bed, nobody could stop her.
